Help with the ValuAid app on Android and Apple devices — installing, signing in, scanning, permissions and your account. Can't find your answer? A real person reads every email.
Pick your platform
Android
ValuAid runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later and needs a rear camera and an internet connection.
Getting the app
ValuAid is in closed testing on Google Play, so it is not publicly listed yet. Access is by invitation:
- 1
Request access from the waitlist on our homepage.
- 2
We email a Google Play tester invitation to that address.
- 3
Open the invitation link on your phone, tapBecome a tester, then install ValuAid from Google Play.
The invitation is tied to one Google account. If your phone is signed into a different account, the Play listing will show “item not found” — switch accounts in the Play Store, or email us the address you actually use.
Permissions
Manage these under Settings → Apps → ValuAid → Permissions.
- Camera — required to scan an object.
- Photos and videos — only needed to scan a picture you already took.
- Notifications — optional; lets us tell you when a scan finishes.
If you denied a permission twice, Android stops asking — you have to re-enable it from this screen.
Updating to the newest build
Open the Play Store → tap your profile picture →Manage apps & devices → Updates available→ update ValuAid. Beta builds change often, so please update before reporting a bug.
App is slow, frozen or won't open
- Settings → Apps → ValuAid → Force stop, then reopen it.
- Still bad? Storage & cache → Clear cache. This is safe — your collection lives in your account, not on the phone.
- As a last resort, Clear storage or reinstall. This signs you out; your scans come back when you sign in again.
Uninstalling or leaving the beta
Press and hold the ValuAid icon → Uninstall. To leave the testing programme entirely, reopen the tester invitation link and choose Leave the programme. Neither of these deletes your account — for that, use thedeletion page.
iPhone & iPad
ValuAid requires iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. The Apple build is in closed testing and is distributed through TestFlight — it is not on the App Store yet.
Installing with TestFlight
- 1
Ask for access from the waitlistand tell us you are on an iPhone or iPad.
- 2
Install TestFlight (free, from Apple) on the device.
- 3
Open our invitation email on that device, tapView in TestFlight → Accept → Install.
TestFlight builds expire after 90 days. If the app refuses to open and TestFlight says the build has expired, install the newest build from the TestFlight app.
Sign in with Apple
You can sign in with Apple or with Google. Apple offers two choices when you sign in:
- Share My Email — we see your real Apple ID address.
- Hide My Email — Apple gives us a private
@privaterelay.appleid.comaddress instead. It works normally, but it is the only address we know you by.
So if you chose Hide My Email, write to support from that relay address — or quote it in your message — otherwise we cannot match you to your account.
To review or revoke access:Settings → [your name] → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple → ValuAid. Revoking access stops you signing in; it does not delete your data — use thedeletion page for that.
Permissions
Manage these under Settings → ValuAid.
- Camera — required to scan an object.
- Photos — only needed to scan a picture from your library. Selected Photos is enough.
- Notifications — optional; lets us tell you when a scan finishes.
App is slow, frozen or won't open
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, then swipe ValuAid away to close it fully. Reopen it.
- Check for a newer build in TestFlight and install it.
- Still bad? Settings → General → iPhone Storage → ValuAid → Offload App, then reinstall. Your collection is stored in your account and returns when you sign in.
Common questions
The scan identified my object incorrectly. What can I do?
Identification quality depends almost entirely on the photo. Re-scan with these in mind:
- Fill the frame with the object and keep it in focus.
- Use even, indirect daylight — turn the flash off on glossy or glazed surfaces.
- Place the object against a plain, contrasting background.
- Photograph any hallmark, signature, stamp, label or maker's mark close up.
- Take several angles, including the base or reverse.
If it is still wrong, email us the photos and what you believe the object is — beta reports like this are what we tune the model on.
Is the estimated value an official appraisal?
No. ValuAid gives an AI-generated estimate for information only. It is not a professional appraisal and not a guarantee of authenticity, condition or market value.
Real prices move with condition, authenticity, rarity, provenance and where you sell. For insurance, probate or a high-value sale, get a valuation from a qualified appraiser or auction house.
I can't sign in.
Work through these in order:
- Check you are using the same provider you originally signed up with — Google and Apple create separate accounts even with the same email address.
- Confirm the device is online and the clock is set automatically; a wrong device clock breaks sign-in tokens.
- Update to the latest build, then fully close and reopen the app.
- On Android, make sure the phone is signed into the Google account that received the beta invite.
Still stuck? Email us and mention which button you tapped and any error text you saw.
Where do my photos go, and who can see them?
Your photos and the items you scan are stored in your account and are visible only to you. To produce an identification and a value, photos and item details are sent to third-party AI providers for that analysis.
We also use the photos and item details created in the app to train and improve ValuAid's own identification and valuation models. If you would rather we didn't, email support@valuaid.app and we will exclude your account — you keep full use of the app either way.
Does ValuAid work offline?
No. Scanning, identification and valuation all run on our servers, so the app needs an internet connection. Items you have already scanned may still appear from the local cache, but new scans will fail until you are back online.
Can I see my collection on a computer?
Yes. Sign in at valuaid.app/collection with the same account you use in the app and your scanned items will be there.
How do I delete my account and my data?
Follow the steps on our account deletion page. It explains exactly what gets deleted, what may be retained, and how long it takes.
Note that uninstalling the app, or revoking access under Sign in with Apple, does not delete your data — only a deletion request does.
How do I send feedback about the beta?
Email us, or join the conversation with other testers in the ValuAid Facebook group. Feature requests, confusing screens and bad valuations are all useful — this is what the closed beta is for.
Still stuck?
Email support@valuaid.app. We aim to reply within two working days.
Include these and we can usually fix it on the first reply:
- Your platform and device (e.g. “Pixel 8, Android 15” or “iPhone 14, iOS 18”)
- The ValuAid app version, shown in the app's settings screen
- The email address you sign in with
- What you did, what happened, and what you expected instead
- A screenshot or screen recording, if you can
ValuAid provides AI-generated identifications and value estimates for informational purposes. Results are not professional appraisals or guarantees of authenticity or market value.
